🔍 Still figuring it out? Start with one career step

Hey There 👋
Happy Better Yourself Friday! 🎉 We’re slowly threading through the second half of the year, and this week is all about one powerful word, #refocus. Over the past few weeks, we’ve looked back at the first half of the year and started thinking about what the rest of 2026 could look like. Now it’s time to turn that reflection into action, especially when it comes to your career, your skills and the opportunities you want to be ready for.
In all honesty, you don’t need to have everything figured out by July. You don’t even need a perfect CV, a polished portfolio, a full career plan and ten new skills by next week. Rather, you just need one clear next step. Small, focused action is the key to rebuilding momentum.
You can start by asking yourself, what kind of opportunity do I want to be ready for before the end of the year? It could be an internship, a graduate programme, a part-time role, a remote opportunity, a bursary, a learnership or even a side hustle. Once you know what you’re aiming for, it becomes easier to see what needs attention.
Maybe your CV needs a refresh. Maybe your LinkedIn profile still says “student” but doesn’t show what you’re interested in. Maybe you’ve learned useful skills through assignments, group projects, volunteering or part-time work, but you haven’t written them down yet. Or maybe you’ve been applying for roles, but you’re not tailoring your applications enough.
This is your reminder that your experience counts. Even if it didn’t come from a formal job 💡. Group projects can show teamwork and leadership. Class presentations can show communication. Volunteering can show responsibility. Part-time work can show reliability, customer service and problem-solving. Personal projects can show initiative. The key is learning how to explain these skills clearly.
A good place to start is with your career profile. This includes your CV, LinkedIn profile, portfolio, certificates and any examples of work you can share. Think of it as your “opportunity toolkit” 📁✨. When an opportunity appears, you don’t want to start from zero. You want your basics ready enough to apply with confidence.
The goal isn’t to transform your whole career in one week. The goal is to take one step that your future self will thank you for. Keep going. The second half of the year still has room for new opportunities, new skills and new wins.
So without further ado, here’s another installment of Better Yourself Friday

💡 Great Tips for Mahala
Building a new habit isn’t a magical “21-day” thing like some of us have come to believe😅. In this article by healthline explains that habits usually take longer and depend on the person, the behaviour, and your environment.
The trick is to start small, connect the habit to a clear cue, repeat it consistently, and not panic if you miss a day. So basically, don’t chase perfection chase progress, your future self can actually stick with 🌱.
