šŸŒ Remote work reality check: stay safe, get paid, avoid scams

šŸ’» ā€œEarn in dollarsā€ jobs: the red flags you must know (SA edition)

Hey There šŸ‘‹

Happy Better Yourself Friday! šŸŽ‰ Let’s jump straight into it. Remote work is real. Getting paid in foreign currency is real. But so are scams dressed up as ā€œeasy online jobsā€ and ā€œquick money opportunitiesā€. This week, we are making sure you can chase global opportunities with confidence, without losing your time, identity, or money along the way.

Let’s start with a simple rule: a legitimate job will never require you to pay to get hired. If someone asks for an ā€œapplication feeā€, ā€œregistration feeā€, ā€œadmin feeā€, or ā€œtraining depositā€ before you’ve even had a proper interview… that’s your sign to pause immediately. 🚩

Another common warning sign is communication that feels unofficial. If everything is happening on WhatsApp or Telegram, and they avoid email, company websites, or LinkedIn profiles, be cautious. Not every WhatsApp message is a scam, but real companies usually have more structure: a company email address, a clear interview process, and a digital footprint you can verify.

Also watch out for offers that feel too good to be true. If you’re seeing ā€œR50k per week for typingā€ or ā€œearn thousands daily with no experienceā€, it’s usually bait. Real remote opportunities can pay well, but they’re still tied to skills, responsibility, and performance. If the pay is wildly unrealistic, it’s often because the goal isn’t to hire you, it’s to trap you.

One of the biggest dangers is when they ask for sensitive information too soon. Never share OTPs, banking login details, or private documents upfront. A real employer might request documents later in the hiring process, but it will typically be after you’ve received an offer and through secure channels. If they want your ID selfie, bank details, or verification steps before an interview, treat it as a major red flag.

So without further ado, here’s another installment of Better Yourself Friday
