š» āEarn in dollarsā jobs: the red flags you must know (SA edition)

Hey There š
Happy Better Yourself Friday! š Letās jump straight into it. Remote work is real. Getting paid in foreign currency is real. But so are scams dressed up as āeasy online jobsā and āquick money opportunitiesā. This week, we are making sure you can chase global opportunities with confidence, without losing your time, identity, or money along the way.
Letās start with a simple rule: a legitimate job will never require you to pay to get hired. If someone asks for an āapplication feeā, āregistration feeā, āadmin feeā, or ātraining depositā before youāve even had a proper interview⦠thatās your sign to pause immediately. š©
Another common warning sign is communication that feels unofficial. If everything is happening on WhatsApp or Telegram, and they avoid email, company websites, or LinkedIn profiles, be cautious. Not every WhatsApp message is a scam, but real companies usually have more structure: a company email address, a clear interview process, and a digital footprint you can verify.
Also watch out for offers that feel too good to be true. If youāre seeing āR50k per week for typingā or āearn thousands daily with no experienceā, itās usually bait. Real remote opportunities can pay well, but theyāre still tied to skills, responsibility, and performance. If the pay is wildly unrealistic, itās often because the goal isnāt to hire you, itās to trap you.
One of the biggest dangers is when they ask for sensitive information too soon. Never share OTPs, banking login details, or private documents upfront. A real employer might request documents later in the hiring process, but it will typically be after youāve received an offer and through secure channels. If they want your ID selfie, bank details, or verification steps before an interview, treat it as a major red flag.
